Making cents out of dollars

I went to the grocery store earlier this evening to pick up items for making cupcakes. I returned home only to realize that I forgot a key ingredient, cupcake holders. So as I returned to the store, there was a man outside selling the local co-op like newspaper called, "The Real Change." Every now and then I like to contribute to this program where people are trying to earnestly earn a living. I left the store with dollar in hand, ready to pay him, but he had already left.

There I was, walking home with this dollar in hand. I was trying to figure out what to do with it. I had already decided that I didn't want it, and I knew that I couldn't just hand it to anyone, because most people would be offended of such an act. So, I decided to place it in a bush on the corner in front of the homeless youth clinic near my house. I hope that this makes someone night or day...depending on when they find it...

For the record. I don't miss this dollar. In fact, I relish in the idea that this will make someone happier more than it would ever make me, after all, I was already giving it away anyways.

Dear Facebook...

My oh my you have changed over the years. You went from permitting only one profile photo saved to allowing zillions. Yes, zillions. That's fine. I like being able to have my options, and to be able to stalk others by scrolling through their photos.

You also allowed to start posting photo albums. At first, one at a time, and then later you allowed us to have multiples! You even let me tag my friends, so they know when they had photos of them posted.

You opened up your services to others, besides those who were in college. At first, I was opposed to the idea and afraid of it turning into MySpace. I soon realized that I could use this to my advantage and stalk my brother online, and now I can even stalk my dad (for better or worse)!

You went from just a basic profile and wall, to having applications, which aren't AS cluttery as MySpace, but it's getting pretty close. This is still okay. I just wish that wasn't published on my news feed. You also used to have my wall neatly displayed below my info, so there was less clicking required.

I have two real complaints:

1) Status conversations. Now, I have been known to comment on another person's status. In fact, I have been doing it more lately than ever before. I realized today that people abuse this privilage, and normally they aren't smart. I went to click on someone's profile (Yes, I was stalking, like you don't?) and I felt like my IQ had dropped done by at least 30 points by reading just a few of his/her status updates and the conversations that took place after. I guess the problem is not with you, Facebook, but the incompetant people that I, apparently, am friends with.

...So I guesss number 1 has been voided...okay, so here is the real number 1:

1) I hate the new set up. I can't seem to find anything that I normally would go to. I got invited to an event, and I had a hard time locating where I even needed to click to see it. Sometimes it is located in the top bar of my page and other times on the side. Make up your mind! I don't like how large the font is on the news feed on my profile. I don't like the news mixed with my wall. So, please, go back to the old you? Maybe? Just once?

XOXOX

P.S. Sometimes when people publish rediculously depressing and personal status updates I want to

Day 2. Boo.

So, I have decided, that I have to do baby goals if I am going to survive this thing. Today, I woke up grumpy. I scowled the entire time I drank my salt water, and then I could not go back to sleep, until 5 am. In fact, I kept having pop songs stuck my head.

The good news is that I haven't had to drink as much lemonade as I thought I would. Yesterday, I drank 3 1/2 and today I am still on my first. This means less cringing for me, and less making bottles, which becomes quite the chore. Wow, I have ended my good news with a negative note...oops.

On a real positive note, I think baby goals will work best. When I think about 14 days, I feel overwhelmed. When I think baby goals, I get excited.

Baby Goal 1: 3 days (almost there wooo!!!!)
Baby Goal 2: 5 days
Baby Goal 3: 7 days
Baby Goal 4: 10 days
Baby Goal 5: 12 days
Baby Goal 6: 14 days

The first few days are always the hardest. I will conquer!!!

Day 1

Look familiar? This is because I am doing the cleanse again, but this time, pushing for a new record. 14 days. Right now, I will be honest, it looks bleak. It looks unachievable. Part of my subconscious is wondering how I even made it 10 days last time, BUT when there is a will there is a way. I am going to try and do baby goals for now, but when my friend at the office offers me chocolate in her office to remedy a bad day...I just keep chugging. It doesn't taste as bad as the first time around, but I still scowl every time I take a drink. I have 2 bottles down, 4 more to go for the day. I will probably end closer to 8...

PLEASE DO NOT FORGET TO CHEER ME ON. I need it.

Best Saturday Yet...

  • Sleeping in until 10 am.
  • Going to the Imax to see, "Mystery of the Nile." A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. Let's go on a rafting trip soon, okay?
  • Went to a stamp show. Yes, as in postage stamps. Yes, I was there talking to an old man about his collection for over an hour, so what?
  • Played late night Bingo.
Seriously, I promise I am not 75...yet...

Target Audiences...

CBS has a pretty apparent target audience with a contest like this:

What ever happened to winning trips to Hawaii???

Two of my favorite things...

+

=

Magic

Seriously though, I own the movie on VHS and DVD, and I always cry during the final scenes...Should you be surprised? No. I cry during ET too.

Thank you 30 Rock for bringing that moment to life 2 more times...and for bringing John Lithgow on the show. Truly magical.

Oh...P.S.

The petri dishes I use in my lab are Pyrex too! Eek! Gaddd!!! Look how cute they are...

"This is why I'm hot..."

  • Sometimes I really enjoy going to bed at 8:45, and then waking up at 3:30 am wide-awake. Instead of trying to go back to sleep, I think of potential blog posts, and play on the internet for a while. Around 4 am, I drink a giant glass of water and go back to sleep.
  • I love watching and reading the news, especially the same story, but from different sources to compare and contrast the angles.
  • I love listening to NPR (also a part of my love for news). One of my favorite segments is "Marketplace," but I find it to be a little harder to listen to, because I use to have a crush on Scott Jagow's voice, and now he only posts on their blog. Sometimes I would even arrive a few minutes late to work, just so I could finish listening to this program.
  • I also like to take my lunches at noon, sit in my car and listen to "The Conversation," and I like to converse with the program.
  • I check the mail everytime I arrive at my house, no matter what time, in hopes of something being there...mail, bills, surprises.
  • I'm a lemonade connoisseur.
  • My favorite color is orange, and it has been ever since I can remember.
  • I create movie ideas in my head on a regular basis. If you are a screenwriter, we should team up soon.
  • I dwell in the simple pleasures of life.
  • I've decided that the only time it would be okay for me to get arrested would be when I jump into the Locks as the water is rising. I also want to get a job there hooking the boats up.
  • I love IMAX films. I even own a few on DVD...yes, I know that this is self-defeating but they are quality films!
  • I love being a BYU cougar. Seriously. Sometimes it is a little embarrassing, but I have embraced and now I bleed blue through and through!
  • I also LOVE being a Texan, more than you will ever know.

This is not my "25 things you may not know..." These simply were my thoughts at 3:30 this morning when I could not go back to sleep. I now realize that I should work on a more normal sleeping pattern, and stop getting hip-hop songs stuck in my head..."Ever since I can rememba' I've been poppin' my colla', I've been poppin' my colla'."
